Voice Training, Bethel Ct - House Concert June 20, 2012Posted by: Horovi on Jun 22, 2012 |

Four of our older students, Nancy Brant, Peter Gasparo, Tony Bruno, and Lana Levine put on our first ever House Concert on June 20, 2012. Each singer brought their spouse and then there was the two of us. Ten was the perfect number that fit in our studio and around our dining room table.
Nancy opened the program with four classical selections that included several duets that she sang with Christina. Peter followed, dividing his five selections between numbers that he did with Howard at the piano and the use of prerecorded instrumental tracks in the Sinatra-like swing mode.
Lana delivered a beautifully selected set of five songs followed by Tony’s set of similar length. Both were doing interpretations of standards to instrumental tracks. What was special about the evening was not only the music making in an intimate setting but the time spent getting acquainted, ending the evening around the dinner table. Read on for more pictures, what people sang, and our perspective on our House Concert in context.

Ordinarily studio events are public affairs either done in a formal setting or informally in a restaurant but nevertheless carefully planned and rehearsed. Capturing video has become the norm in our media saturated age. We promised ourselves that we would neither record nor shoot video in our cozy setting but I couldn’t resist taking a handful of pictures.
Curious about summer plans we learned about Lana’s forthcoming trip to Europe with the Connecticut Choral Society to singing in some big choral events with other choirs, and Nancy and Lana’s plans to continue working with the Adesso Choral Society in the fall, a seven voice group specializing in new choral music.
We are of course planning our Summer Concert 2012 and will soon announce an early August date. There will very likely be another Dinnertime Songfest event at a restaurant this summer to give our pop singers a chance to be heard.
The success of the House Concert meant a lot to us. Encouraged, we look forward to another such event in the future. Not everything of value has to be done in public view all the time.
