The Karaoke Songfest on November 14, 2010 took place at Empire Szechuan Restaurant in Bethel on a Sunday afternoon. Nine students who are currently studying voice with Christina Rovics performed plus two guest artists, singing 26 songs in a 90 minute long program. Once again Empire Szechuan hosted the occasion by providing us with a private room, a quality menu at reasonable prices and excellent service that never distracted from the music, our main reason for getting together.
The video that corresponds to this blog is a nine minute distillation of the program. It includes a few moments of voice training time with Christina shot spontaneously in the studio during the weeks of preparation leading up to our Karaoke Songfest. The video omits only the two youngest singers (below the age of 13) who, by the way did beautifully. Their omission conforms to Youtube and Facebook’s protective privacy policies.
For anyone interested here’s some detail about the songs on the Karaoke Songfest video and the students who sang them in the order in which they appeared.
Sharon McCarthy sings Hopelessly Devoted to You from the musical Grease. She took voice lessons with Christina throughout high school, went away to college, launched her career in New York State as a public school teacher, and in her twenties returned to continue her voice studies. Last year she directed her first school musical production and is preparing her next one for 2011.

attention to detail. My daughter Laurin Gagne age 15 has studied with many teachers. Laurin found Christina about 3 months ago. From her first lesson we could tell Christina was a great fit for Laurin. We are so pleased with Christina and Laurin absolutely adores her. I think with Christina's training and Laurin's vocal gift Broadway is not a maybe for Laurin but attainable.
