Our Summer Concert took place on Sunday August 12th at 6:00 pm at the Danbury Music Centre. There were nine participants altogether (7 in this photo) besides us in the center back (Howard and Christina Rovics).

Fewer singers meant more time alotted to each performer, in fact five people did three songs each. The program was about 90 minutes in length, progressing from classics in English, German, French and Italian to early and contemporary musical theater with one singer doing some current day Italian popular music fresh from her appearance at Danbury's Italian Festival.

JOIN US at the Danbury Music Centre on Sunday

August 12th at the Marion Anderson Recital Hall

at 6:00 PM for a concert of singing students. Admission is free and open to the public. There is a public parking garage next door to the Centre. 

Howard Rovics will accompany at the Danbury Music Centre's wonderful grand piano but this time we will also bring our sound equipment so that some songs can be sung with instrumental tracks using a microphone. 

Among the performers will be Emily DeGirolamo, Amber Fairchild, Anna Bunovsky, Peter Gasparo, PJ Mansfield and Laurin Gagne. Lua Leite and Ria Paranjape (see picture) will also be singing. 

Some of our regulars are on vacation or currently in summer musical theater productions so our program is not overcrowded. This means that more people get to do three songs instead of the usual one or two. It's a perfect opportunity to hear the scope of our talent. 

It's been a lively summer. Currently there are seven new people on our roster several of whom will be signing on for the fall. 

The Danbury Music Centre is located at 256 Main Street in Danbury near White Street and across from the Danbury Post Office. 

Four of our older students, Nancy Brant, Peter Gasparo, Tony Bruno, and Lana Levine put on our first ever House Concert on June 20, 2012.  Each singer brought their spouse and then there was the two of us. Ten was the perfect number that fit in our studio and around our dining room table. 

Nancy opened the program with four classical selections that included several duets that she sang with Christina.  Peter followed, dividing his five selections between numbers that he did with Howard at the piano and the use of prerecorded instrumental tracks in the Sinatra-like swing mode. 

Lana delivered a beautifully selected set of five songs followed by Tony’s set of similar length. Both  were doing interpretations of standards to instrumental  tracks. What was special about the evening was not only the music making in an intimate setting but the time spent getting acquainted, ending the evening around the dinner table.  Read on for more pictures, what people sang,  and our perspective on our House Concert in context.
