“Raise a hand if there’s an empty seat next to you.”  This was announced just as we luckily found two adjacent seats a few rows from the rear of Ridgefield High’s auditorium.  It was almost showtime and people were still arriving to the fourth and last sold-out performance of 42nd Street on March 19, 2011.  
Connecticut’s Ridgefield High is known for the quality of its pit orchestra under Albert Montecalvo’s direction.  When the lights went down the fifteen piece ensemble entered to a round of applause.  From the first downbeat to the last note of the show the ensemble was flawless.

42nd Street is a dancer’s show.  The large stage was at all times uncluttered, with ample space for some great ensemble tap dancing.  But there was no lack of really good singing:  solos, duets, barber shop quartet singing, and large ensemble choral harmony.
