Bethel Opera Singer in NY appearance

Posted by Horovi in opera singer , opera , ct , Bethel

Mike-AlexisBethel operatic baritone Michael Trnik is singing the role of Bartolo in a production of Le Nozze de Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) with the OSH Opera Company at Symphony Space in New York City.  The performance takes place on Sunday, February 28th at 6:00 pm. The Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space is on 2537 Broadway at West 95th Street.  As a graduate of the Wesconn Music Dept. and advanced student of the renowned operatic tenor Perry Price (Danbury)  both of these artists performed on our benefit concert last November, Christina Rovics & Friends at the Danbury Music Centre.
Our relationship with Michael is a long standing one having worked dozens of times with him at two of the major Catholic churches in Danbury where he was a paid soloist. As he began to win leading roles with small, regional opera companies in the greater New York and New Haven areas Christina and I spent whole evenings with him and one or two of our advanced students rehearsing entire scenes and acts of his up coming roles one of which was Don Giovanni in the Mozart opera by that name.

YouTube as an Inspiring Resource

Posted by Horovi in Untagged

For the last several months Christina frequently invites students  over to the computer to look at items on YouTube that are inspiring and instructional. Now she is compiling a playlist in our channel, CRovicsVocalStudio of these favorites. Here is today's favorite:
Nathan Gardner performs "Not a Day Goes By" by Stephen Sondheim. Nathan is a recent graduate (BFA) of the Penn State Music Theatre program.

Karaoke Songfest: An Appreciation

Posted by Horovi in Untagged

Thanks to all the students who performed yesterday (Feb 7th) at our Karaoke event.  It was a nice mix of Broadway and pop; everyone chose challenging music and rose to the occasion.

It warms my heart to see all the students together with their families.  In a world so focused on competition and criticism, it is beautiful to see all the singers lifted up by the support of such a loving, respectful, and attentive audience.

I noticed the intense concentration with which everyone listened, appreciating differences and noticing similarities, and opening themselves to new material - a great learning experience for us all.  It touched me to think that 17 year old Victoria, writing and producing her own music, started out like little Molly at the age of 8, singing at these events.

I loved seeing everyone linger afterward to meet each other and express their appreciation of one another and share their accomplishments and aspirations.

Howard and I were very pleased with the restaurant, Empire Szechuan of Bethel.  They handled everything so quietly and beautifully.  It’s an ideal venue for this type of event.
